Tai Chi Posture No. 1 (P'eng: Yin defence)
Using P'eng jing, you are able to ward off any kind of attack using a 'yin' method. This also acts as a sensor, which can then be turned into an attacking yang hand. It is said that if you only learn about one kind of jing, then this should be it. On a physical sense, the arm is held as if holding a tree, slantingly upwards. In push hands this gives one the idea of how to use the posture of P'eng. Most people make the mistake of holding the arm in the correct position but then lifting the whole arm upward. The elbow should stay where it is while the wrist is lifted upwards slantingly. This 'lift' the attacker's Qi causing him to feel like he is 'floating' making it easy for you to then attack to vital points. - Erle Montaigue

Student of the Year

ANDY: Is one of the most inquisitive martial artists we've had the pleasure to teach, they question everything down to the minute detail and are super hungry for info and keen to practice, they are flying through the syllabus and always willing to help others. They are a pleasure and an asset to have in class.

Junior Student of the Year

ASHTON: This student has the makings of Professional Martial Artist, they are humble, dedicated, and full of ability. They seem to have bypassed the normal laws of physics, such as gravity. They have really matured and grown this year, and are becoming capable of handling tougher and more complex forms and techniques. If they continue in this manner we will see great things from them.

AWARDS EVENING

Our Merit winners were:

KEITH: Has quietly been improving this year, their stances and transitions between postures are looking great. They have begun to self-analyse their form work and are constantly increasing their own understanding of their own body mechanics and structure. They strive to apply any updates or tweaks straight away. their regular dedicated practice is really paying off.

WILL: Seamlessly made the move from Juniors to Adults and we have thrown them in at the deep end with some of the techniques, which they have really started to apply themself to. They have a cheeky element to their training, always with a smile or giggling at something - mainly winding up their sister, but showing big improvements since moving up to adults.

PEARL: Is like a sponge, we can literally throw anything at them and they get on with it, asking all the right questions and always pushes for the next thing in their syllabus. If we ask them to practice they do it until they get it right, they have a helpful attitude and always welcomes new students young and old and makes them feel at home.

MIRIAM: Comes to every lesson with a smile and an abundance of enthusiasm, their confidence has improved massively and they are really starting to master their strikes and kicks from the syllabus. their improvement has been fantastic this year for someone so young.
